2012 Laugh & Live Festival — Entry Rules
All Film and Essay submissions must be received by April 11, 2012.
Film and Essay Nominees will be announced on May 1, 2012.
Winning films and runners up will be screened at The Laugh & Live Festival and/or made available for viewing on The Laugh & Live Festival website.
Additional prizes will be announced closer to the event.
Entry Fees
$35 for Films
The entry fee, or a fee waiver request, is required for each submission, filmmakers are permitted to enter as many films desired with a completed entry form and fee accompanying each entry. Multiple submissions from a filmmaker must be submitted as individual submissions. Once a signed entry form and all materials have been received in all required formats, the film will be considered eligible for awards.
*If you are unable to pay the entry fee, please submit a fee waiver request, in writing, along with your entry. Briefly explain why you are unable to pay the fee, and on what merit you believe we should consider your request. Waivers will be granted on a need and merit basis. If your request is denied, you will be required to submit the fee before your film will be considered eligible for awards.
Film Submissions
Films must be in silent format, and must be no longer than 11 minutes (including credits and titles). Film entries must be submitted in DVD (region 1 or 0) format, and a second data DVD containing the film in .mov format. Non-English films must be subtitled in English.
Pre-recorded accompanying music is allowed and encouraged, but only original or properly licensed music will be allowed. Films may not contain any music or other item (including, without limitation, trademarks or copyrightable material) for which filmmaker does not have license. THE LAUGH AND LIVE FESTIVAL WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEARING ANY RIGHTS IN CONNECTION WITH A FILM SUBMISSION. All submitted films must have credits.
Adult themes and concepts are allowed in submissions and eligible for prizes, but please be aware that age-restricted films may or may not be screened at the Festival, at the organizers’ discretion.
Any film exceeding the eleven minute limit including credits or not RECEIVED in both required formats with all appropriate materials, on or before the appropriate deadline will be disqualified with forfeiture of all submission fees.
Previously published films are allowed, so long as the filmmaker or writer retains rights to the work.
In submitting your work to The Laugh & Live Festival, you grant The Laugh & Live Festival / Sparrow Morgan a non-exclusive right to the public performance and publishing of your work for purposes related to The Laugh & Live Festival.
All entries must include the following, and all materials must be received by the deadline,11:59PM PST, April 1, 2012:
- Completed and signed entry form.
- Entry fee, in the form of a cashier’s check payable to the Laugh & Live Festival or PayPal to paypal@laughandlive.com, OR Fee Waiver Request.
- Film Entries:
- A DVD in Region 1 or 0 format, labeled with the film’s title, running time, producer’s name, director’s name, and contact number and email address.
- A data DVD with the film in .mov format, labeled with the film’s title, running time, producer’s name, director’s name, and contact number and email address.
- A brief (up to 50 word) synopsis of the film.
- Principal cast list and credits.
PLEASE NOTE: ENTRY MATERIALS WILL NOT BE RETURNED.
We will make every effort to notify entrants of missing materials, but it is not the responsibility of The Laugh & Live Festival to notify entrants of incomplete entries. On a case by case basis, additional time may be granted to receive missing materials, this time will be granted at the sole discretion of The Laugh & Live Festival. Please do not rely on this and send your entry early – the likelihood we will be able to accommodate your request decreases as we draw closer to the festival. INCOMPLETE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED, and the entry fee will be forfeit.
